Fear, grief and curiosity are the main driving forces that surround our quest to find out more about the supernatural. Fear of death is the major driving force. We all have to die at some point and most of us fear it. Grief after the loss of a loved one can sometimes drive us to look for evidence of a spirit world. Curiosity is awakened if you have experienced something unusual and want more information about it.

 Also something I have noted is that when times are harder than normal with a war, famine or natural disaster there is always a surge of heightened interest in the supernatural.

Just because I believe and have seen ghosts it does not mean I am not Christian. So many of the websites for amulets, ghost facts and haunting info are tainted with Wicca. Religion of lack of has no bearing in the haunting that I have known of. I don’t think that any spirit will come up to you and inquire what your beliefs are before making their presence known. After all, how many burglars inquire about the income status of their victim before doing the deed. We contain human spirits before death and become human spirits after death. As to “evil” spirits they were once evil humans, no more demonic than the next evil human.

Amulets and their use

In an earlier post I mentioned the use of amulets and religious objects in ghost hunting. To make the object or amulet affective for protection it will have to be blessed. The Catholic Church has a long standing procedure for blessing crosses, objects and places. Do not feel like an idiot if you need an item blessed, they will be happy to do it for you. Also I am sure that many other religions do the same thing.

As a side note, if you have been married in the Catholic Church then you already wear a blessed item – your wedding ring. The wedding rings are blessed by the priest in the wedding ceremony with holy water.

You remember awhile back about the parking lot ghost? It was on all the TV news broadcasts. It showed a shadowy figure floating above the parked cars. The image was taken by a security camera that was high up on a building over looking the parking lot. About a month later it was proved to be faked. Someone had dangled a toy doll near the camera and the camera could not focus in on the toy show it showed it as a shadow. Thus the parking lot ghost was made. I have also heard that there was another one called the gas station ghost, but I don’t know much about that one.

More about protection

I spoke in an earlier post about protecting yourself form harm if you plan on doing any ghost hunting. Here is more on that subject. This time I will talk about amulets

An amulet, meaning “an object that protects a person from trouble”) or a talisman (from Arabic طلاسم tilasm, ultimately from Greek telesmaor from the Greek word “talein” which means “to initiate into the mysteries.”) consists of any object intended to bring good luck and/or protection to its owner. Potential amulets include: gems or simple stones, statues, coins, drawings, pendants, rings, plants, animals, etc.;

All faiths both Christian, pagan and non-Christian practise some form of amulet nurturing. Take for example wedding rings. In the Catholic church they are blessed with holy water and prayer to ensure a happy marriage. In most Christian faiths the wearing of the cross is thought to protect the wearer from evil or harm. Pagans have their own set of symbols. American Indians have many different types of amulets for protection. Click on the amulet links to find out more about amulets their use and types.

Protection for ghost hunters

I am always amazed at the television ghost hunters. They look like they feel immune to any unearthly attacks they may have. Many psychics and even clergy will tell you that you need to have some sort of protection. That protection may come in the form of a “guardian angel”, a spirit guide, a trusted and personal saint, a passed on family member or what ever deity you worship. You need to have that protection in place BEFORE you go looking for trouble. Sometimes that protection finds you. If you have had any miracles happen in your life then whatever spirit you attribute that miracle to would be your “guardian”.

Unearthly attacks cannot only be physical but spiritual too. After an encounter you may have a personality change or become very depressed. This is due to your spirit being attacked. That is the time to call on your spiritual guide to help you and seek out others that are experienced in attacks on the spirit.

Ghost hunting is not something to be taken lightly.

Ghost stories part 6

This ghostly happening occurred just after I got married and was in our little “starter” home. The house was built in the 1950’s and had several owners by the time we moved in. We bought it and moved in, in 1988. Our marriage did have a rocky start and there were quite a few arguments. One night it got so bad that we even argued after we were in bed and the lights were out. I needed some rest so I took my pillow and a blanket and went to sleep on the couch.

Normally either during or right after the argument my husband would encourage us to make-up. I was laying on the couch waiting for him to show up like he always did and nothing happened. I peeked down the hallway toward our bedroom and saw a bright cherry like glow heading my way. It was the type of glow you see on the end of a cigarette and it was coming toward me in the dark. The first thing I thought of was “why is my husband smoking in the house” (he did smoke at the time). I did not hear any footsteps! The glow faded as it passed me. That was my first indication that the house was haunted.

Other happenings started to occur in the house, but they will be covered in my next few “ghost stories”.
