My husband’s family lives in Pennsylvania. They live in Pittsburgh. The old family home is no longer owned by them but they told me stories about the property. One such story was about the wood chopper.
The story goes that a person in the area use to chop wood in the local woods with an axe. This person was suppose to have lived before the 1930’s. There is nothing sinister about the person – just that you could hear him chopping wood – at night!
My sister-in-law told me that she was told that on a still summer night you could hear the wood chopper chopping wood, at about 2am in the morning. She poo-pooed the idea until one summer night she had trouble sleeping and went outside on their bedroom porch to get some cool night air when she heard the chopping of wood. She said the hairs on the back of her neck stood up! The direction of the sound came from a wooded area at the back of the house that followed a creek. The surrounding areas are all built up with houses on small lots.
I am not quite sure what to make of her story, all I know was that she was scared when she heard the wood chopper.
